Theatre Northwest announces auditions for spring production

Northwest Missouri State University students and faculty are invited to audition next month for Theatre Northwest’s spring production of “Under Milk Wood.”

Interested individuals should sign up for one of two blocks of auditions at 6 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the Studio Theatre at Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts. Callbacks are Wednesday, Dec. 4. Performance dates are Feb. 20-23.

“Under Milk Wood,” by Dylan Thomas, is described variously as “a 20-hour pub crawl of a Welsh fishing village” and “an emotive and hilarious account of a spring day in the fictional Welsh seaside village of Llareggub.” Audiences learn about the inhabitants’ dreams, desires, loves and regrets.

Northwest Professor of Theatre Dr. Theo Ross will direct the play. Considered Thomas’ masterpiece, the play calls for a cast of more than 30, many of whom have only a few lines, providing a valuable opportunity for non-theatre majors to participate in a University production.

The audition will consist of reading from the script; no advance preparation is necessary. Monologues will not be presented at the audition. A copy of the play is accessible by clicking here.

For more information and to sign up for an audition time, contact Ross at ross@nwmissouri.edu or Assistant Director Jamie Thygesen at S530016@nwmissouri.edu.

In addition to “Under Milk Wood,” Theatre Northwest’s spring production schedule includes “Glass,” Feb 14-15, and concludes with the musical “Into the Woods,” April 16-18.
